Brief description of the project
Today, Lebanon has no railroad or subway; all communication inside and outside the city is exclusively by private car or the occasional public transport. In 2022, Lebanon received a grant from Spain to develop a master plan to lay 407 km of railway tracks. The pre-project was carried out as part of the competition "Concept for a Carbon Neutral International Train Station in Beirut, Lebanon 2022" from the official Lebanese NGO Dar-e, dedicated to sustainable development in architecture and the study of carbon-free construction in Lebanon. An extensive analytical analysis of the area with its historical background and the identification of the "pains" of both the city and the country has been carried out. It is proposed to overlay a pedestrian grid to enable unobstructed transit for locals and to divide the main body of the building into blocks: a multilevel shopping and entertainment center next to the exhibition area of the city, 4 local and 2 international platforms, a public reaction zone with atrium and greenhouses, and a transport hub next to a shadowy single-level parking lot. The architecture of the building applies the principles of passive design, and the main building material chosen is efte replaceable panels and basalt fiber.
